How to Say the Cardinal Directions
Consider These Examples
1. Ale nan nò → Go to the north
2. Ale nan sid → Go to the south
3. Pran wout lwès → Take the west route
4. Pran chemen lès → Take the east road
NOTE: Though it is not the official standard, Creole speakers sometimes say ès instead of lès and wès instead of lwès
How to Say the Ordinal Directions
Consider These Examples
1. Vire nòdwès → Turn northwest
2. Vire nòdès → Turn northeast
3. Vini sidwès → Come southwest
4. Vini sidès → Come southeast
Be Careful With Eastern and Western Ordinal Directions
When saying east and west ordinal directions, leave out the l from the beginning.
